Boron steel is the generic name for boron-alloyed steels. These steels are hardenable through a heat treatment process. Hardness is created by heating the product to a high temperature and then quenching it in water, water-polymer solution, or oil, to room temperature. In certain cases, a tempering treatment (low-temperature annealing) may be performed after quenching to achieve the right balance between hardness and toughness. These properties ultimately determine the product's wear and impact resistance, and thus its service life.
27MnCrB5-2 is alloyed with manganese (Mn), chromium (Cr), and boron (B), among other materials, and can achieve a hardness of approximately 510 HBW (50 HRC).
